1. clearly analyze the group’s pre-production, production, and post-production process; shot and editing selection; Web delivery formatting decisions.

Our group worked-well together and I was lucky to be chosen to work with such well-organized people. One of our members, Emily W, set up a whole Google site that we collaborated on throughout the process. I had only a cursory knowledge of how to share and collaborate via Google and the ease-of-use of such a tool became evident as our process moved along. During production, our team was guided by Pam to video conferences in tinychat.com that helped us reconnect and explain details that would have been difficult to explain via lengthy emails. The video chats went well, and I know know the power of tinychat.com. Through the Google site and the tinychat.com sessions, we narrowed our topic to cyber bullying. The shooting was done by Emily P and her daughter, Natalie P., was the star. We went through several script and shot list edits until we arrived at a powerful message based on an actual experience of Natalie’s. Emily P provided relevant statistics and a script from her daughter’s story. Once again, the Google site became invaluable as I began to edit the raw footage from Emily P. in iMovie since I was able to create separate pages for each draft of the PSA and other group members made comments on each draft easily. I also made the decision to host the PSA on YouTube since iMovie exports directly to YouTube, and it seemed the easiest form of web delivery since all members of our group had experience with You Tube. Post production was documented via the Google site and served as a method for checking that we had met course assignment requirements.

  1. offer insights into how the group can improve their public service announcement.

I think that given more time, the quality of the video and audio as it was shot could have been improved. It would have been nice to use a HD camera and shoot in a 16:9 aspect ratio, instead of in a 4:3 aspect ratio using a flip camera. However, this is a small suggestion and I think that given our time-frame and equipment--we did a great job with what we had.

In addition to the above, I did use one music clip from my school district’s royalty-free music provider.

I enjoyed getting to know my fellow students. It was nice putting faces with names. I was able to tell a few jokes, and get a few laughs--just like this was a “real” class. I wish all Lamar work was done in this way. I certainly did better work than I would have on my own.
